All that and the start of the point to point season at the end of November. Anyone for Cottenham.

Re: How ignorant is Tommo?

For goodness sake give him a break. Soldiers might have indeed backed Wootton Basset. I don't see the problem with the chap. He is what he is, a bit daft (no harm in that, so is McCririck), but expert at talking to a crowd and as a compere. Chatted to him one day at Towcester, could have been more a...

Re: If not Fallon, then who?

Adam Wedge (for the 10lbs off) :) Good call. I'm half tempted to add Gina Andrews as well. Can't think of too many of her winning rides for Pam Sly that have been absolutely mown into beforehand, despite her knowledge of the yard's horses she's regularly kept on and a "busy hands" style t...

Also, not really a racing question but what does GmbH mean? I've seen it quite alot.

Fegentri is the international federation of gentlemen riders and sanctions races all over the world including jumping meetings in the United States. I dont't know much else about it.

Re: Racing Rogues

Given his performance in the members at Kingston Blount at the end of May, that old rascal Duchamp. Yes I know he won a two horse race but he refused five out when miles clear and only won because his rival's rider was having her first ride and nearly hit the deck three out.

Re: So this is the flat season?

You'd have thought Lingers could have run at least one race on their shiny new 'draw biasless' straight course, if only for comedic value. That would have made four races staged under rules before The Rabble's boys vacated the scene and handed over the track to the local flapping club. Glenn, just ...

Re: Vincent O'Brien and Lester Piggott

Dick Francis's excellent biography suggests there was no one incident but a gradual parting of the ways precipitated by a number of factors. Lester was reticent to ride the no-hopers his agreement had committed him to, the regular journeys to Ireland were difficult, he'd started to ride more and mo...

Re: The Americanization of UK racing

Personally, I'm pretty ambivalent where sponsors add their names to the existing race title (e.g. Coral-Eclipse), but this "registered as the Esher Stakes" business is nonsense. Traditional race names are part of Racings narrative (isn't this one of THE Racing For Change buzzwords) and th...

Re: THE GREY KID

Have we got the right horse here, Bob? Grey Kid (no "the") never ran on the Flat (the Post site incorrectly quantifies his three Irish point runs as Flat ones), but he was entered at Trecoed and finished third in the Members. If it's him, then that's really really sad. He'd enjoyed his mo...

Cormack is a Jock, we don't use a shillelagh or whatever the Irish call it. In the borders it would be a nibby.

Re: Derek Thompson ( Thommo ) what a fool

Not a fool, just a jolly nice chap. Once spent some time speaking to him at Towcester, could not have been more pleasant. Very self effacing and does send himself a fair bit and a very good caller of a race.

Put Bob in the Tommo fan section of the forum wont you.

I fail to see what a persons appearance or personal hygiene has to do on a horseracing forum, but if your going to slag people off for those at least have the decency to spell their names correctly. Spot on Cav. And just for the record I have been sitting next to John this morning and there is abso...

Re: Worcs 5.40 Delayed to stop clashing with Ascot 5.35

Another example of the gross stupidity which has dragged in low-grade midsummer jumping to foul up our major race days. Sigh.... Not forgetting the low grade summer flat racing at Thirsk, Redcar etc. and what on earth were Kempton doing with one of their all weather evening meetings in Ascot week. ...

Re: Racing returning to Lincoln ?

Hurst Park was at Molesey, on the banks of the River Thames, near to Kempton and Sandown. Thanks. All I remember is that Mansfield Town FC bought the grandstand from one of them. Transported it piece by piece. Must have been Hurst Park because I stood in the Grandstand when the Carholme was used fo...
