Think I will have to nail my colours to Binoculars mast once again this year. Unlucky last year in my view and felt he handled the course OK although will be ridden a bit differently this season.
Will be definitely taking HF out of the race and will probably back them both to win the same amount.
Not too worried about CH,others will be more of a problem

Another nice little boost for Hurricane Fly's form with Donnas Palm beating Tramp Stamp despite having to give 8lbs to the mare.

Hurricane Fly is the obvious standout much in the same way Master Minded is for the Champion Chase and there is a lot to be said for the backing the two in a nice double! I can't see HF going off at 7/2 on the day!!!

Of the less known horses maybe Bahrain Storm who runs in tomorrows Cesarewitch. He has shown very decent hurdles form in routing the field in the Galway hurdle. He also seems to be progressing nicely judged on his flat form this summer and is rated in the high 90's. He will obviously have to improve a fair way but one good sign is his form on stiff tracks (Galway and Clonmel) and his appreciation of an uphill finish. I think he is the ew bet at this moment given that he will probably run a decent race tomorrow and be cut in price. Take the 50/1 on offer with Paddy Power and I bet come tomorrow night the best on offer is 25/1 - 28/1.

Bahrain Storm ran a decent race in the Cesarewitch in finishing 8th. He is now 25/1 with Blue Sq and 888Sport, 40/1 in most places and still a standout 50/1 with Paddy Power.

Might be worth a few euro's although I understand given that he runs over hurdles then had a chase outing then ran in the Cesarewitch it is difficult to say for certain where he will end up!

I'd imagine one or two in this thread would know what the ground is like coming up the hill in the champion hurdle. I only know it to be uphill and tough.

So for anyone who knows the ground well. Do you think it would have been better for McCoy to have went in between CH and Punjabi approaching the last, instead of taking the outside ?

Generally horses like going between other horses, so regardless of the ground it may have been the best option anyway. Hindsight is great though....

This has bothered me for some time, and I think nine times out of ten he would have gone between. But he is a master at judging ground ,and he may have been influenced by this.

Difficult one, ain't it Roddy ? Hmmm i dunno. The manoevure to go on the outside compared to the losing margin. Obviously his judgment is far more credible than mine, he is after all the top jockey. In my mind though, if the same scenario happened again this year i'd hope that he'd go in between.

Not sure I would be advising anyone backing Dunguib for the Champion Hurdle but he wouldn't be 33/1 if targeted at the race. If they are eventually thinking of a chasing career one thing in favour of a tilt would be his age.

Today's race didn't tell us too much other than he could jump - very relieved for the jockey that he didn't bungle the last.

Whatever about Hurricane Fly running in the '09 CH as a novice, I very much doubt Dunguib will be aimed at anything other than the Supreme Novices. Philip Fenton is always quite cautious and realistic about his horses and I don't think he'd pitch a novice into the CH.

He'd only get a nice view of Hurricane Fly's backside up the hill anyway!

Don't know if Dunguib will ever run in a Champion Hurdle I would expect him to go Supreme this season Arkle the next, Time will tell.

It would seem we may not have to wait too long to find out how good Hurricane Fly is as Nicky Henderson is up for taking him on in November..Be as well putting the young whippersnapper in his place sooner than later

JP wants to know where to target his two star hurdlers - whether he'll need one to replace Binocular at Cheltenham Fist ;)

Hard Held

I think Solwhit has all the right credentials for this race but unfortuntely it seems the market agrees and he is a single figure price already. I am hoping that he gets beaten by Hurricane Fly/Binocular - the 2 horses who will surely dominate the small field/moderate pace 2m hurdles due to their turn of foot in the lead up to Cheltenham - a couple of times and drifts out to a more attractive price.

In other words I hope Binocular and HF dominate November-Feb, both go off at shortish prices, and then I can oppose them with Solwhit and one or two others at nice prices and hopefully watch the two hype horses get out battled in March!
