Thanks for all the help guys.

Ile De Bourbon, it sounds like Moon Mountain ran in the same colours carried by Be My Guest whilst Prince Regent carried those which appear on the France Galop site – so I guess French trained ones carried the latter, a bit like the Marquesa De Moratalla’s colours slight variation between England and France.

Right Royal is definitely black and white diamonds, white sleeves, black cap (source: 1970 Dir. of the Turf/http://www2.france-galop.com/couleurs/CatcoNPro.aspx). My earlier surmise of white maroon stripes was completely wrong – I think I must have clicked the owner below Mme Couturie on the France Galop site in error!

Sorry I cannot help with any of the gaps you have at this stage I am afraid. Though it would seem you have a lot of the Arc ones I don’t have so will post another of my lists presently.

I am livid I missed the Kashmir II colours as I have a paperback copy of the B&H Book - I sometimes overlook it as to my mind it has a lot of annoying gaps. Though I have just noticed the B&H book show that the Butler silks in quesiton were in fact red, white and light blue check, l.blue cap. A slight, but colourful addition.

The span of the B&H book is limited and given the work I am sure it involved should/could have been far more detailed across the generations. Some sets of silks are probably pointless given they are of small owners of that period who never owned any famous horses - yet obvious ommissions include the Wildenstein colours and of course as we found Mmme Felix Berger. I know they were probably registered only in France at the time but surely the people behind the book could have met up with their French counterparts and made a book of far greater historical merit.

Does any one have the recently updated Cartier version? Was it any better?

Have been “googling” again and have found out the following – don’t get too excited though.

If you google molvedo 1961 ( worldwide , not just uk ) them go to “images” you should see a painting of said horse Red Black Cap . Can’t verify how accurate that may be but prior to finding that I did stumble across a black & white picture of Molvedo in an online edition of Sports Illustrated – looked like one solid colour with a very dark cap so …. Maybe ??

Have a look on the British Pathe site – been there before. Use the advanced search and in Keywords either Ashurst Wonder or Oroso and you’ll get the races. Black and white but at least with Oroso we are now looking for some mention of seams.

Keep hunting.

Thanks Ile De B - works now! Seeing Fatherland reminds me of the final months of MVOB's career - I remember thinking he had one more English Classic in him when Classic Thoroughbreds came on the scene but it wasn't to be. By 93/4 it was all winding down - I think I am right in saying Fatherland provided him with his final runner in an English Classic ('93 Derby)? How appropriate they were in his colours, and the horse was a son of the horse that would provide Coolmore with its resurgence throughout the next decade and a half.

I know this forum was originally posted for "classic" winners, but with the onset of Glorious Goodwood, I was investigating some of their big races and couldn't find colours for:

Richmond Stks - 1992 - Son Pardo (owned by NTC Ltd)
1960 - Typhoon (N S McCarthy)
1952 - Artane (J O'Connell)
(the latter two were both trained in Ireland by Paddy Prendergast)

Stewards Cup - 1954 - Ashurst Wonder (Mrs R Merrick)

There are probably others too, but in the meantime, anybody?

Hi again,

Today I stumbled across an article on the Lady O'Reilly studs and noticed that her Hesdmonds Stud colours (a variation of those formerly carried by her uncle George's horses) now appear as Bluehills Racing Ltd.

Anyone know why the change and why Lady O'Reilly no longer seems to be listed as the owner of Hesmonds Stud? I am guessing she sold it at some stage recently?

http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Impressiv ... ON.(Sports)-a0195502052

refers to Bluehills as being the racing arm of Hesmonds, and according to breeederscup.com,

"Petra Bloodstock Agency is one of three noms des courses for Lady O'Reilly, formerly Chryss Goulandris, who lives on the 850-acre Castlemartin Stud in County Kildare, Ireland. She also races in the names of Hesmonds Stud and Skymarc Farm

Whether she has relinquished her positions recently, I dont know - but somebody must??

Ile de B.

1926 Cheltenham Gold Cup – Koko (Mr F Barbour)

Orange white sash , orange slvs white armlet , qtd cap

Courtesy of Ogdens Steeplechase Owners & Trainers 1927 cigarette cards.

May yet get C Bentley ( 1925 Gold Cup) from this set but can’t “see” him yet on the poor scans of the set I have – can’t make out the type on the screen , too blurred.

Cheers
I.

Thanks Isinglass - getting there slowly but surely!!!!

Incidentally, I found (by accident) confirmation of Patrick Doyle's (Glencaraig Lady) colours. Would you believe he had a two year old filly (may have had more) with Clive brittain in 1975 called Maureen's Surprise - happen to have a Warwick evening racecard where she ran -
Red, Royal Blue striped slvs, qtd cap

as we already knew I think!!!!

Thanks for your perseverence!!
