Cigar couldn't do it. Citation couldn't do it.

Zenyatta just made it seventeen in a row with a third consecutive win in the Vanity.

Mike Smith had her way out the back before making smooth progress at the halfway stage. She was a couple of lengths down turning in, about six wide, and looked beat two furlongs out before getting up on the line to win by a neck.

Talk about knowing where the line is. The ultimate Drama Queen.

It looks like Zenyatta's next race might be the Clement L. Hirsch Sat. Aug 7 at Del Mar, though there has been no formal announcement. Zenyatta doesn't like the Del Mar surface and a lot depends on whether or not the new track superintendent can fix the surface issues, as a number of horses broke down last year at Del Mar. I hope Zenyatta doesn't run at Del Mar as I'd rather see Zenyatta at Saratoga or at least over more distance than 8.5f. While we're waiting for the announcement of her next race, I thought you might enjoy these YouTube interview videos of Mike Smith;

I think it is fair to say that Zenyatta's popularity stateside is probably something akin to the way Arkle was turned into a national pet here in the 60's?
