Seems like the post-race analysis in this thread has provided the answers; a poor draw for the horse's style of running, an unfamiliar jockey, moderate form of the yard.
Had the same in-depth study been done by anyone before the race, then 7/2 would look a farcical price in a race of that nature. However, bookmakers and punters alike show blind faith in Mr Stoute's runners in handicaps; bookmakers faith in that they can offer poor value and punter faith that the horse will have improved ahead of the handicapper's assessment.
Indeed, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Slightly off thread...any good reasons why Sanders would have reverted to hold up tactics on the Prescott beast at Kempton yesterday afternoon? Pace-wise looked setup for a front runner with no shortage of stamina, imo.
So we will batten down the hatches, throw the children overboard, lock up anyone who protests and continue to elect liars who double cross us. Another day in the Banana Republic.

I anticipated a destructive early battle between some or all of Area Fifty One, Ullswater and the Prescott animal in question, Kepler's Law, all of whom had enough previous where trying to make all was concerned to believe that was a possibility.
Of those three, Kepler's Law was the only one to have raced (and indeed won) over further than 1m4f, so if one had to nominate any of them as the least likely to dodge a burn-up for fear of not lasting home, it would have been him.
To learn that he was not invited to go toe-to-toe with Area Fifty One early doors, and then continued to be waited with despite the moderate fractions, does puzzle somewhat. If Sanders declined the early lead on the premise of the other two front-runners going off murderously quickly, he miscalculated to a calamitous extent.
Either that, or his mount is impotent going right-handed, though more evidence than just yesterday's would be required before pursuing that line of thought any further.
I was on Word Power, incidentally, so fared little better.

It was a bizarre ride Cav, but one that didn't come as a huge surprise when you saw the betting close to the off.

Your dictionary is deficient, sir.
"Patronize" is much more than a mere synonym for "condescend".
A much more accurate definition is this:
"Treat with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority."
Now nobody, not even his worst enemy, could accuse Pinza of "kindness". Therefore, he does not "patronise" anybody.
What I am is "Pharisaical". Every day I find myself thinking: "Thank God I am not as these other men are". It is I agree a grave sin - especially as today the object of my Pharisee-thought is that Chief Moaner to the Treasury Reet Hard, who [as Ginger has pointed out] still has given no earthly reason why the Newbury Stewards should have wasted their time and our money by setting the Spanish Inquisition onto Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Hughes over the poor run of Labarinto.
Christ alive, Pinza.

Kepler's Law is unlikely to act on an oblate rectangle
Quite obvious to me he needs an elliptical track

Incidentally, I'm thinking about which course to debut my exciting unraced bumper prospect Escher (HOL) at. What do you think to Towcester?

Good choice GC, that eternal staircase requiring infinite reserves of stamina should suit admirably
Is Escher from the same family as Killeshin?

Had a quick glance at Kepler's graph about an hour before post time but it seemed to reverse itself in a positive direction before the race?
Granted there were plenty of well flagged up reasons why the horse was no 7/4 RP forecast price, but I swear I saw a look of surprise on the horses face when it wasn't allowed to do what it had done four times previously, certainly looked plenty keen enough to get on with things from the gate. Still might not have won given the mark, better opposition and wear and tear from a busy program but certainly wasn't put in the best position to maximize his chance, imo.
RUK's post race analysis glossed over the ride, you'd expect better from Mr Hoiles.
