The stewards enquiry as shown on BBC's Ascot coverage seemed to consist of an explanation from Dettori followed by a paraphrased translation explained to Barzalona by an interpreter.Straight afterwards the jockeys were dismissed and the announcement that the result stood made very quickly afterwards..........surely Barzalona should have been asked by the stewards if he felt that what looked like a significant bump close to the finish had any effect on his horse or the result?

It looked like a very odd amateurish process from what I could see.

From what I remember someone did ask Barzalona a question and he replied 'no' but I don't think he said anything else.

I agree that it certainly didn't look like a thorough hearing by any stretch of the imagination.

Nevertheless, there are two things that immediately spring to mind. For one, the enquiry was opened by the stewards themselves rather than there being any complaint lodged by Barzalona. For another, Barzalona looked like he'd rather be somewhere else at that moment in time. Whether this was because he felt that Dettori did nothing wrong or whether Barzalona wanted to keep his mouth shut for professional reasons is something I couldn't possibly speculate on.

Whatever the case, the stewards caught wind of what was happening and closed the case as soon as possible.

Mikael Barzalona knew exactly that if he wanted to keep his job as the future No 1 with Godolphin he kept his mouth shut! His silence spoke volumes!

I wonder if the jockeys were switched would Barzalona have kept the race?Frankie had his whip in his right hand causing his horse to lug out hitting the rear end of Barzalona's horse. The horn blew before the jockeys dismounted.Seems like Frankie can do no wrong.Nevertheless I was glad to see him win after the way he has been treated by Godolphin. But of course the rules are clear and Frankie apparently did nothing wrong.Any penalty for careless riding?

The Ascot gold cup headlines should be - 'Dettori Barges his way to Gold cup victory'. This so called great ride and the subsequent Stewards enquiry was a farce. Having watched the race and tape footage of this many times it's obvious that Dettori should have been penalised for his conduct. First of all he gets in front and by using by using his crop in his left hand and importantly his body weight moves his horse across in front of Gulf of Naples on the inside rail to see off any challenge, note how far he is away from the rails when he first starts to come through and how far he has to move across, then realises there is another challenge on his other side by Opinion Pole so changes his crop to the other hand shifts his body weight (his bottom) to the other side making the hose move over and barges into Opinion Pole. This can be seen much clearer by the video footage from the front (BBC) especially moving his bottom across, this is all deliberate and has nothing to do with the horse being tired at the end of the race and 'just started to run around a bit' ..sorry.. that's just rubbish. This is the worst sort of professionalism and just the kind of thing that gets racing a bad press only made worse in this case by the non event of the Stewards Enquiry.

Why is everyone got it in for Frankie this year?

What there were two things that jarred with me, first the enquiry itself when Barzalona was asked if he wanted to add anything, and of course he said no. I didn't hear is any sort of suspension was handed out.

The second, which concerned my more was a comment (Mike Fitzgerald I think) that this was Frankie showing who is boss. This implies he thought it was deliberate, but because it was Frankie everything was OK. Since when is it OK for a jockey to deliberately cause interference so that the better horse doesn't win? This is either a poor reflection on Dettori or the commentator who made it.

Sure took some quite a while to figure out the position of Frankie vis a vis the stewards.Don't you remember how he got Seamie Heffernan suspended? I was a voice crying in the wilderness over that case. When Frankie says jump the stewards ask how high?

I may be wrong but when BBC jumped to the steward's inquiry I though Barzalona was just wrapping up his take on events.

Then Frankie gave his side of the story. Did the stewards not then ask Barzalona if he had anything to say in response to what Frankie said?
It can be argued that man’s instinct to gamble is the only reason he is not still a monkey up in the trees.
