I don't think it is fair to drop Frankel into the heat of serious competition at a mile and two for his first run at the distance. Are there no races like group two or listed he could try at that distance to establish his ability to stay?Genuine group one horses will be waiting for him, trained and ready and he will be expected to beat them at their favourite distance.

Why is it unfair?

Nearly all Group 1 winning milers have their first go at 1 1/4 miles in a Group 1, think Raven's Pass, Henrythenavigator, Dick Turpin and...Brigadier Gerard!

I don't understand why its unfair either.

In any case its not going to matter if Frankel runs at any distance between 5f and 1m4f he'd still win if targetted properly.

I too cannot see how it is unfair.
If he stays, he wins, regardless of what turns up.
It really is that simple in my view.

Unfair on whom ? The opposition ?

York's 10 and bit furlongs will be ideal for Frankel.

If Sir Henry Cecil decides that the Juddmonte is to be Frankel's first test beyond a mile, so be it.

He will win as he likes. Too much ability, too much power, and too much speed.

We know Aidan will enter upwards of half a dozen horses :D , but I just hope the other trainers who are currently considering the race for their charges, don't take cold feet when they see Frankel's name among the entries.

You could widen the above question to accomodate every horse who has stepped up in trip in Group 1 company if you like Andy, there are more Derby winners who hadn't run over a 11/2m than those who had prior to the race!

Very ODD Andy. :? Living up to your name my friend.

Are you trying to find things to knock Sir Henry's decision making? Not doing a very good job.

Try harder!

This is my final answer to one of your posts Andyod - you are stretching being 'devils advocate' to becoming a pretty poor wind up merchant. Tada.

I just don't want the situation where Frankel gets beaten and then the excuse "he did not stay" becomes the mantra. In fact I don't want him to get beaten at all. But I would like to know if he will stay beyond a mile without the risk of defeat.I suppose that is having your cake and eating it so to speak.I can imagine him being ambushed like SYT was in his debut at Ascot in the Prince of Wales but I don't want to see it happen.Remember SYT was 7/2 on when beaten.Having to run two more furlongs before making his effort can be a challenge without some Ballydoyle pace maker urging him on only to be taken down in the final hundred yards by another Ballydoyle horse. That I don't want to see.OK? How my original post could be read in any other way is beyond me.Surelyu every post should be read on it's merit.I have gone after Aidan,Joseph, Henry, Stouty on the flat and Nicky Henderson for the doping scandal amongst others. Is that not why we have the Forum?
