Watching him attempt to gallop on before collapsing in a heap for one last time really took it out of me. I didn't have it in me to stick around for the last two races. It's one thing watching the names crop up on a memorials page but it's another when you see it happen live.

It's not an easy thing to see BH, I agree there. It's bad enough putting the names up on the memorials board

Completely agree BH the death of a horse at any meeting casts a shadow over the whole day and beyond, and to see it live absolutely horrific.
What a wonderful tribute to him you have posted in that picture.
I don't know how those at the parade ring at Newbury coped when Fenix Two and Marching Song died in front of their eyes because of faulty cables set up for an upcoming rock concert, and I still haven't got over the deaths of Synchronised and According to Pete in the Grand National, it will be hard to watch the race next year and I don't even know if I want to.
RIP beautiful boy Valsky Kauto

Terribly sad
Seems so much worse when you see them trying to run on. I used to think it was just plain herd instinct, but now I wonder if it is that they know they are hurt and need the protection of the others?

What a sweet intelligent face he had. Tragic. As for the National, I was only thinking of it yesterday. I'm having a huge tidy up at home part of which is sorting out all the racing papers I tend to hoard. Saw a photo of Neptune at Ditcheat after winning and I realised that, although I'm over the moon at the joy that it bought Mr Hales [and well deserved after the terrible losses he's had] I can never watch this years race again.
