Lets not underestimate the stress it puts on horses to compete at the top level in racing. Horses that have developed tendon trouble can go on to compete at eventing and show jumping etc which seems to put much less stress on their bodies. I have to defend Mr Hales, though, for sending One Man to Aintree. Many horses over the years have gone on to run at both festivals; look at what happened to Dessie when he did so. Perhaps we’re only just beginning to realise how much it takes out of a horse winning at the Festival. It broke his heart when One Man died.
