Whilst I agree that the winners based RPR system is limited and rather volatile, I don’t think that the standings would alter too much when placed beside the pattern rating. Although it would still be interesting to find out for sure.
I am assuming that you have used the RPR achieved by the winner in the given race. This fails to show whether the race attracted a strong field and only tells us how one horse performed on one day. It is probably ok for open aged races but for 3yo only races it can be misleading because many of the protagonists go on to improve once tackling their elders.
I wouldn’t disagree with that. It was largely for this reason that the efforts were concentrated on open aged races as they tend to be much more relevant for form purposes whilst the 3yo only races tend to concern the breeding side of the sport more than anything else.
