not convinced this is a very strong renewal of this race. slightly concerned about the hill for simonsig, and the question will be what will he find off the bridle as he will undoubtably travel very well. but he's the only one in the field who for me has the potential to get to the highest level, so i'm willing to take that risk.

thehorsesmouth wrote:If you're looking for quality Ginger look no further than Monksland imo. His novice hurdle form is up there with Boston Bob's as the best in Ireland. There was a twinkle in the eye of Noel Meade after his last win, said he couldn't believe the price he was. There seems to be a lot of confidence behind him, but the ground must be a slight concern. He's never ran on it although after his win at Navan in December Meade was adamant he'd improve for better going. I'm just disappointed I missed the 25/1 after he beat Lyreen Legend!

Monksland certainly has a second favourite's chance THM. Should be suited by less of a test of stamina if he does "act" on the ground. Although got some worries about him finding enough off the bridle. I don't call it the Meadecarberry disease for nothing.

I've had a bit each way on Close House at a huge price. Although he has a lot to find on official ratings, his bumper form is good and he just looks like the type who is capable of upping his game when taking on better opposition.

Agreed E, hope Simonsig goes for the Champion Hurdle. Although will need to brush up his jumping. To win like that in a Championship event, despite not jumping well - something special. Wow!

So good, i'll even forgive them for running him in the wrong race.

I thought it was interesting that Barry said in the post-race interview that he'd wanted him to run in this race because he knew he wouldn't get away with jumping errors like that over 2m.

You know what I'd absolutely love? Some proper races. The Arkle, Mares', Neptune, Novice handicap and Champion Hurdle have been complete non-races.

Why was the Arkle a non-race ?

I did find it odd though that Ruby decided to take SS on early. That was never going to work

Think Ruby's had a mare of a festival and made some weird decisions.
I could have won on Quevega.
